The event featured a selection of the finalists for the 2019 awards reading their books to primary and secondary school pupils throughout the day.
Sylvia Park School Rocks!
These kids were so welcoming, clever and bright. They even sang a heartfelt waiata to me –
they sang so beautifully, I had to stop myself from crying .

Creative kids at Woodlands Park School
Here’s work from the next generation of illustrators! I asked them to create their own characterisation of the wind. Would you believe no.1 was done by a 9 yr old?

The Future Looks Bright!
I had immense pleasure working with St Joseph's school kids in Otahuhu.
We wrote about hopes and dreams. Smart and bright - these kids certainly
give me hope for the future!
Bookaroo in India.
Late last year I had an unexpected invitation to be a speaker at the Bookaroo Festival in India. There was no way I was going to refuse! The Festival ran in three cities, Delhi, Goa and Pune, and I was lucky enough to attend all three.
In every city I was overwhelmed by the hoards of enthusiastic kids who loved books! We made cloud shaped poetry books, engaged in verbal battles, 'Spots!' 'Stripes!' and doodled a wall of jungle animals.
Clever Kids from Otahuhu

workshop with these super talented kids who wrote and illustrated three books
about their school values. The book launch at the Otahuhu library was
crowded with proud parents and relatives.
